WOW!!!!!!!! She looks very beautiful on silver. :sarc: :sarc: :sarc:

WAIT!!!!!!......something is missing on her..........Where are the "gills"?????

If this silver coin is a victim of a "boating accident", then how will she be able to "breathe" under water?

It also looks like she has gotten younger. Is there a fountain of youth somewhere in Britain?

The "Tumor" hairdo must be popular in Britain.

There must have been some changes in the leadership at the Royal Mint. First was the huge artistic letdown of the 2008 coin, now this mess. Why not let Philip Nathan come up with another of his masterpieces? What a let down.

Just maybe the photographer made a hash of it, though they would be pretty silly to put a bad shot on their presentation box.

For the Britannia family of 2010, a new serene portrait has been created by Suzie Zamit who explains: I wanted to portray Britannia as strong (almost Amazonian) and courageous looking, but not overly warlike; more peaceful and protective. I have given her a Corinthian-style helmet and incorporated a lion on the design: the lion being the national symbol of courage - I wanted to emphasize the strong and watchful connotations - and this also links in with Greek and Roman coinage which display many animals.

i glanced at the photo, and then read through all the comments. my impression was, "it's not that bad, guys". but then i went back and really looked at the coin, and it really is teh suck....
the details in the hair make it look thin and dirty. the gown looks like sackcloth. the 'lion' on the helmet is too big and the face mask part is too small to make it discernible as a helmet. the lion is just horrible. the field is blah. the relief looks like it's well worn right out of the mint....
wow. that's really bad.
i hope that lady doesn't get to do any more brits....

Honestly, it really wouldn't surprise me to see a "multi-culti" version within the next ten years.

I am disappointed with it. Brits are my favorite, I have an entire set so I feel obligated to continue it and we all look forward to the even year designs.

Zamit's Darwin Coin was much better:

as was her bull piece:

She should have stayed with the Darwins

The bull looks like a paper matche project of a 4th grader.

I agree. But hey, at least the Brits have an entire set to offer.

Look at the U.S. Mint. Same design year after year and they can't even produce enough (or any) in '09' for collectors!

This is what I am using to fill the '09' ASE hole in my collection: :headsand:

1. Any fans of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever (scifi/fantasy by Steven R. Donaldson)? That is a croyel.

2. It is a roundish loaf of bread that is on her head, signifying abundance and is further an homage to "bunny with pancake on its head".
